Cerium (Ce) is a metallic chemical element with atomic number 58. Its most abundant isotope is ¹⁴⁰La, with 58 protons and 82 neutrons.

Cerium is considered to be one of the seventeen so called rare earth metals, but it is actually the least rare of them. It is roughly as abundant as copper in the Earth's crust.
