Dubnium (Db) is a synthetic chemical element with atomic number 105. Like all synthetic elements, it does not occur naturally anywhere on Earth, so it has to be artifically produced by combining other elements.
Dubnium is named after the Russian town Dubna, near Moscow, where the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is located. Several of the superheavy elements have been discovered at that research facility.
