Promethium (Pm) is a radioactive chemical element with atomic number 61. It is one of the so called rare earth metals, and it is truly rare. None of its isotopes are stable, and it is estimated that at any given time, there's less than one kilogram of promethium in the Earth's crust.
Being extremely rare, promethium does not have many industrial applications, it is mainly used for research purposes.
