Zinc (Zn) is a metallic chemical element with atomic number 30. Together with copper, it forms the alloy brass.

There are several stable zinc isotopes, but the most abundant one is ⁶⁴Zn, with 30 protons and 34 neutrons.

The primary use of zinc is as a coating around iron and steel to prevent corrosion. The process of coating metals with zinc is known as galvanization. Some levels of zinc are also recommended in our diets to support a healthy immune system.
