Hassium (Hs) is a synthetic chemical element with atomic number 108. It is highly radioactive element, as all its known isotopes have a very short half-life.

Hassium is named after the German state Hesse, which is called Hassia in Latin. The element was discovered in a research center in Hesse, where scientists made lead and iron atoms collide with each other and merge into hassium.
