Mendelevium (Md) is a chemical element with atomic number 101. It is named after the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev, who is often considered to be the inventor of the periodic table. His model predicted many of the elements which were later discovered.

Mendelevium is created by adding alpha particles (two protons and two neutrons) to einsteinium.
