Roentgenium (Rg) is a synthetic chemical element with atomic number 111. It is named in honor of German physicist Wilhelm Röntgen, who discovered X-rays. For this discovery, he was awarded the first ever Nobel Prize, in 1901.
Only a few atoms of roentgenium have ever been created, and they were created by colliding bismuth and nickel atoms.
